Hereford Grand Prix Table Tennis Competition

Gloucestershire table tennis players travelled to Hereford to participate in the last of the English Table Tennis Associations Grand Prix tournaments of the 2007/08 season. County players included Darren Griffin, Andy Smith, Milan Dragojlovic, Dan Kolesnik, Mike Kiff, Dave Adamson, Sam White, Ann Barnes and Lesley Dewick.

Stars of the weekend were Darren Griffin, who won the Veterans title. Griffin who was seeded number 2 in the competition demolished his opposition to get to the final where he met John Dennison. Griffin went two sets up in the best of five final only to have Dennison pull back to level the game at two sets all. Griffin was not going to lose this final. He regained his composure and won 11 – 8 in the final set.

Milan Dragojlovic the number two seed was also on fantastic form in band four of the men’s competition getting to the final only to see it stolen away from him by Billy Pegg who was the number three seed.

After being runner up in the band 4 competition Milan was determined to play his best, this time he was not seeded in the event however, with ease flew through to the final. It was obvious to see that Dragojlovic was not going to let a second title slip away and beat Chris Hewitt to clinch the band 3 men’s title.
Dragojlovic also took top spot in the band 4 event for the whole season. He scooped the top prize by 60 points. Dragojlovic was the player who won the most rating points throughout the season at Grand Prix and Satellite events.

Dan Kolesnik also gained a place in the final of the restricted men’s event. Despite all his effort he was runner up losing three games to one against Stephen Denny.
