The second round of four kicked was played and with Gloucester being the home side it was a short trip to Ribston School. The advantage should have been with Gloucester as this is where all the team have their training nights making this the perfect time to push on from their impressive first round in Cheltenham.
Gloucester 7
Cirencester 0
With Cirencester only able to field two players Gloucester had to lend Elliot King over for the time being though this did give a chance to have a Gloucester vs Gloucester battle on two occasions.
Elliot played against Ben Roberts and Olly Tyndall. After Olly went down 2-0 he staged a tremendous comeback and won the next three games very tightly. Olly won his other match as well as this victory. Ben Roberts beat Elliot in 3 close games though Elliot can say he was helping Gloucester out. Like Olly, Ben also won his other match.
Hamza Bham had more of a comfortable start as he sailed through his first two games in 3 straight matches.
Beth Williams was the final player for Gloucester and came through a very hard battle with Emily Philp but just managed to see it through winning 11-6 in the fifth.
Gloucester 7
Cheltenham 0
In a change up to last time’s fixtures Gloucester had the opportunity to play Cheltenham sooner than they would expect.
The change seemed to favour Gloucester with Hamza, Beth, Ben and Elliot (back playing for Gloucester) all winning their matches against Gloucester’s closest rival. Ben was in fine form as he didn’t lose a single match all through the day.
Elliot and Hamza had to come through a final game decider each though both eventually came through to give Gloucester an impressive win.
Gloucester 6
Stroud 1
Gloucester nearly claimed all points that they could through the day but were halted by Stroud’s Mark Attwood who won in four against Elliot though he can be forgiven as Elliot only had one game that had three games in it.
Beth came through another 5 games but she stayed focused and confident as she finally won 11-7. Elliot managed an impressive win over Dan Ind, who was in good form himself. After losing the first match 10-12 Elliot came back to win 13-11, 12-10 and 11-8 to give him the victory.
There were also maximums for Olly and Hamza who both showed a variety of shots to close out very different opponents.
Gloucester are now really stretching their legs as they’ve pulled out a considerable lead over the other sides and one more display like this may be enough to clinch first spot with a round to go. Maybe a clean sweep of points could be on the cards as Gloucester’s juniors look as though they’re always improving.
