Division 1 –

Rudford ‘A’ 6
Optimists 4

An early loss for last year’s champions as Rudford proved just too strong.

For Optimists, Christine Williams won 3 out of 3 and Steve Greening contributed with a further win. Steve was unfortunate not to win at least 1 more point as both his others went to 5 games but just lost out.

Lawrence Symonds and Simon Moysey won 2; Ann Barnes gained another point beating Alan Churchill in 3 tight games.

Ann and Simon proved a little too much for Steve and Christine, winning 11-9 in the 5th.

The young upcoming star, Olly Tyndall was in good form, winning 2 matches and losing out to Andy in 3 tight games. Trevor Seymour contributed with a further win. Akadiusz Kedzierski (also known as Gary) was unlucky not to win his 1st point of the season, losing to Chris in 5 games.

Grange Baptist ‘A’ 5
EDF Energy 5

The honours were even as neither side could get the upper hand in their opening games.

Not surprisingly, no one won all their games. George Evans and Brian Cullis earned 2 points each, Dave Eaton was unfortunate not to earn a win losing 1 match in 5 games and the other 2 matches were contested well.

For the home side, Alistair Wood and Mariusz Plaskowicki claimed 2 points each. Tony Wauchope contributed with a win as well.

George and Dave claimed the doubles match vs Alistair and Mariusz making the honours even on the night.

Highnam ‘B’ 4
Civil Service ‘A’ 6

A tough battle here as only 1 match had 3 games in it. For the away side, Paul Singh started with 100% winning ways, Barrie Pope and Tony Williamson contributing a further win each. Tony was unfortunate not to claim more points as every one of his matches went to 5 games.

David Crabbe gave the home side 2 points, Dave Gough and Jo Duncan gaining a win each.

Barrie and Paul then earned another point by beating the pair of David and Dave in 4 games, another night and it could have been a different score perhaps.

Division 3 –

STR Seniors 1
Redcliffe College 9

Redcliffe began this season with a strong win. Vidas Rimkus and Andy Taylor both performing well earning 3 points each, Richard Johnson also contributing with 2 more wins on the night.

STR’s only win came in the form of Ian Kellie, beating Richard in 3 tight games. Janie Kirby was unlucky not to win a couple of her matches as 2 went to 5 games.

RSV & Friends ‘C’ 6
STR ‘A’ 4

Tommie’s chances of a win were hampered by the fact that only 2 players were available on the night. Despite this, a comfortable 3 wins for Dominic James.

As for RSV, Mike Gray, Pete Dainty and Brin Davis earned a point each.

Bohan Du and Dominic James combined in doubles against Mike and Pete, winning in 3 straight games. One can only think what their score could have been if STR could have fielded a full strength side.

One Church ‘A’ 3
Phoenix ‘B’ 7

Phoenix started their season with a win. Allan Lardner was the star performer of the night as he claimed all 3, Matt Inman claimed another 2 and a single point for Pete McGough.

Division 5 –

Phoenix ‘E’ 2
STR ‘C’ 8

St James Church 3

A solid win for Phoenix ‘D’, Lucy and Steve Parsons were in good form winning 3, Steve not losing a single game on the night.

Trevor Henry, Graham Pontor and Ashley Armstrong all claiming solitary wins.

Phoenix then went on to win the doubles in 3 straight games.

One Church ‘B’ 3
Phoenix ‘C’ 7

A good start for Phoenix ‘C’ as they kicked off their season with a good win. 3 out of 3 on the night for Bob Vallender and Paul Brear.

Chris Harley pushed Grzegeorz Daniel to 5 games but was unlucky not to come away with a win. One win each for Zoltan Barbely and Marek Honozlik.

The doubles was claimed by Phoenix but with only 1 game separated by more than 2 points, it was certainly one to watch.
