Division 1 –
Forest Products 5
RSV & Friends ‘A’ 5
Graham Slack was the man in form as he won all 3 of his matches with only 1 game lost. Rob Freeman contributed to the home side’s score with another win which was all of Forest Products singles points dealt with.
Yacoob Tilly and Suleiman Saleh both won 2 for RSV. Ahmed Bham was involved in two 5 game matches but could only win 1 of these to add to the away sides points.
Lesley Slack, though not involved in singles, teamed up with Graham and the deadly duo took on the team of Ahmed and Yacoob. After losing the 1st game pretty softly Graham and Lesley came back fighting, winning the next three 11-9, 16-14 and 11-9 to end a well contested night.
Division 2 –
Civil Service ‘A’ 9
Grange Baptist ‘A’ 1
Barrie Pope and Paul Daniels gained maximums though Paul was pushed in one of his matches to the end but Paul had just enough winning 12-10 in the 5th. Phil Hatherall gathered another 2 points for the home side.
For Grange Baptist, their only point came from Erroll Johnson who beat Phil in 3 straight games.
Phil and Paul played doubles against Neil Downing and Mariusz Plaskowicki. Civil Service proving too much and claiming the game in 3.
Rudford ‘C’ 8
Phoenix ‘A’ 2
This was an early finishing nights by the look of it as all but 1 of the matches only had 3 games in it.
Chris and Dave Pearce were the main driving force behind Rudford’s domination in this match. Chris didn’t lose a single game on the night and Dave only losing one.
Phoenix’s resistance came from Chris East and Dave Smith, both beating Allan Perratt in 3.
The Chris and Dave for Rudford ‘C’ were too much for the Chris and Dave of Phoenix and claimed the doubles in 3.
Division 3 –
Phoenix ‘B’ 5
STR Seniors 5
The scorecard remarks summed up this match quite well “Ian Kellie was back in the groove for STR Seniors remaining undefeated for the visitors”. As well as this, Janie Kirby and Tony Saxton gained the rest of the points for STR.
For the home side, Trevor Cox and Matt Inman gathered 2 points each to leave it to a deciding doubles match.
Again, I can hand over the remarks on the scorecard. “Trevor and Matt teamed up in the doubles in a very close five setter to square the match”. Ian and Tony were 2-1 up but Phoenix pegged them back 12-10 and a final game decider was closely fought but eventually taken Matt and Trevor.
Redcliffe College 7
RSV & Friends ‘C’ 3
Vidas Rimkus stayed in impressive form winning 3 for Redcliffe, that’s 6 out of 6 now for Vidas. Andy Taylor kept up a high average with 2 wins, losing the 3rd in 4 tight games. A final singles point was won by Richard Johnson.
For RSV, Pete Dainty put up the main resistance with 2 wins and was unlucky not to beat Vidas in the 5th in a match that could have swung either way. Jerry Winter was the other contributor, winning another 1 for the away side.
In the doubles, the team of Vidas and Andy had too much fire power for Pete and Jerry to cap a night.
Division 4 –
Grange Baptist ‘B’ 3
Crypt ‘A’ 7
All of Crypt’s players were in good form Josh Roberts, Nigel Cullis and Adam Crabbe all winning 2 with Adam having to fight extra hard in one of his games claiming it 13-11 in the last game.
Peter Jarrett won 2 for the home side and Nigel Emberson bagged another win.
The doubles was possibly the most entertaining match of the night. Josh and Adam winning over Peter and Nigel in a very tight 5 game match.
Highnam ‘C’ 7
Rudford ‘E’ 3
James Bird continued his winning ways from last week by winning all 3 this week and in doing so not losing a single game. Derek Pigott contributed 2 and Clare Bell with another 1.
For Rudford, Phil Dixon and Fabrizio Trifiro gave the away side all their points, Fabrizio winning 2 and Phil 1.
Phil and Fabrizio played against the team of Derek and James. The home side claiming the doubles in 3 straight games.
Week 1 Result – Crypt ‘A’ 6 – 4 Highnam ‘C’
James Bird won all 3 of his matches on the night which included a tight 5 games win over Nigel Cullis.
2 wins each for Nigel, Adam Crabbe and Josh Roberts.
The doubles was perhaps the best game of the night, with Crypt winning the first 2 games but with Highnam coming back it was anybody’s guess who would take the last game. But Crypt proved just too strong, claiming the 5th game 11- 7.
Week 1 Result – Rudford ‘E’ 9 – 1 Hillview Church
“A baptism of fire for Hillview Church team and the games were not a walkover for Rudford. A very pleasant evening”. This sums up the evening as Hillview can count themselves unfortunate not to walk away with more here.
For Rudford though, Fabrizio Trifiro and Sten Salisbury started in fine form, both winning all 3 matches. Another 2 was added by Paul Russom as well.
Hillview’s only fight back came from David Walker who gave the away side their only point. David was unfortunate not to come away with another win losing the Fabrizio in 5.
Fabrizio and Paul claimed the doubles over David Taylor, Faroque Bhatia to end the evening.
Week 1 Result – Crypt ‘B’ 0 – 10 Grange Baptist ‘B’
A complete show of dominance show by the away side as they claimed all points on offer. John Patterson, Len Horwood and Nigel Emberson all claimed 3 points.
For Crypt, some positives can be taken from this, Matt Skelding lost 1 game in 5 and the other 2 were contested very well. Matt Emmett battled well against Len lost in 5 and Beth Williams was unfortunate not to win a match but can take confidence from her hard work.
Len and Nigel played against the 2 Matt’s in doubles and were in control all the way winning in 3 straight.
Division 5 –
Rudford ‘F’ 9
Phoenix ‘E’ 1
Owen Berry and Liam James set the standard of the evening, Owen only losing 1 game on the night. Margaret Pang performed well as well winning 2 and losing 1 in 5 games.
Phoenix’s only point came from Sam Coleby. Chris Morgan was unlucky not to win a point as 2 of his games went to 5 but lost to Liam 11-8 and Margaret 11-9. Perhaps next time...
Liam and Owen rounded off a successful night for Rudford, winning in 4 games against Sam and Chris.
St James 5
One Church ‘B’ 5
St James can thank their star performer Alan Page mainly for this result as he won all his matches with no loss of game. As well as this, Andy ended up with a points difference of 99 points won and only 23 lost throughout the whole night! Trevor Henry gave St James their other singles point.
One church’s points came in the form of 2 wins from Gregory Szlowieniec and Marek Handzlik. Zoltan Borbely contributed with a win against Ashley Armstrong.
Doubles was taken care of by the team of Andy and Trevor in 4 games against Marek and Zoltan to give both sides a share of the points.
