Division 1 –

Highnam ‘A’ 8
RSV & Friends ‘A’ 2

Highnam have shown that it’s not just a two horse race for the division 1 title this year. After this win they only sit 1 point behind RSV and Optimists but have a game in hand.

Richard Madrell and Chris Sabourin both were in fantastic form as they won all their matches. Jason Million contributed well with another point.

Yacoob Tily and Suleiman Saleh were RSV’s only points scorers. Yacoob came through two tight final game deciding matches but was narrowly pushed out of winning anymore points for the away side.

Jason and Richard combined for the doubles match against Yacoob and Suleiman. Highnam came back from 2-1 down to come out 3-2 winners and cap a very entertaining night.

Week 4 Result – RSV & Friends ‘A’ 7 – 3 Optimists

The first meeting this season between last year’s champions and runners up may have shown where the momentum was at the moment. On this occasion it looks as though RSV are the top dogs.

Optimist’s chances weren’t great from the start as they could only field 2 players. Christine Williams played well and gathered 2 points, which included a tight final game battle with Suleiman. Chirstine came through 13-11 for the away side. Steve Greening provided their other point beating Ahmed Bham in 4 games.

Yacoob Tilly gained all the points that he could win. Suleiman won another 1.

The doubles was dealt with quickly as Yacoob and Suleiman beat Christine and Steve in 3.

Division 2 –

Highnam ‘B’ 8
Phoenix ‘A’ 2

Only a point separates these sides in the table at this early stage but by this display they seem a bit further apart.

Dave Gough was the spear head of Highnam’s dominance as he won all 3 matches without losing a single game. David Crabbe and Jo Duncan claimed 2 points each.

Phoenix had their chances in the match. Angie Brear twice went to a 5th game. The closes of these was a nail biting finish where Angie just lost out 12-10 to Jo, Chris East and Andy Browett won the away side’s points.

Dave Gough and Jo Duncan took on Chris and Angie, a tight start to the match as first two games were only separated by 2 points eventually though Highnam came through to win it in 4 games.

EDF Energy 5
Rudford ‘D’ 5

Oddness seems to be surrounding division 2 at the moment. The doubles was played after the 5th game as Trevor Seymour wanted to leave early after his matches to pick up his wife from where they had been eating before Trevor came to play.

Aside from this, both sides will go away feeling a draw is a fair result. George Evans was the man in form as he won all his matches. Dave Moore gained EDF’s other singles point.

For the away side, Pete Humble and Trevor Seymour both won 2. Glyn Lloyd won Rudford’s final point beating Dave Eaton 12-10 in the 5th.

Dave Moore and George Evans beat the team of Pete and Trevor to end a well contested match.

Civil Service ‘A’ 1
Rudford ‘C’ 9

Rudford went top after this crushing win over Civil Service who are battling for promotion as well. Chris Pearce and Augustin Romero both won all their matches and Dave Pearce won another 2.

Rudford’s only point came from Paul Singh against Dave and perhaps Paul could of claimed another as he lost to Augustin in 5 games.

Phil Hatherall and Paul pushed hard against Chris and Dave. But eventually their defence was “pearced” and Rudford came out winning 11-7 in the 5th.

Division 3 –

One Church ‘A’ 6
Civil Service ‘B’ 4

No fifth game deciders in this match but still a lot of tough battles throughout the night.

Two points for each Pablo Williams, Mark Wilding and Sherif Abdalla. Sherif showed good form as he didn’t lose a single game on the night.

Paul Daniels was the force behind the fight back for the away side as he won all 3 of his matches.

Paul teamed up with Paritosh Ghadiali but did not have enough to beat Pablo and Mark as they took the doubles in 4.

Phoenix ‘B’ 6
STR ‘A’ 4

As 5 teams are separated by only 5 points in division 3 any win is a confidence boost and that’s what Phoenix did.

Two wins each for Trevor Cox, Allan Lardner and Matt Inman. Perhaps some momentum can come from this game.

For STR, Dominic James was their only singles point’s winner. He claimed all 3 of his matches and only losing 1 game the whole night. Dominic is now the only player in division 3 still with a 100% average.

Allan and Matt played against Chris Green and Dominic. STR always looked in control and took the doubles in 3.

Week 4 Result - STR ‘A’ 7 – 3 STR seniors

The first grudge match of the season between the two sides. STR seniors wanted to show the juniors that some ‘old school’ styles work best but the youngsters were going to prove that hoodies and iPods beat cardigans and VCR’s every time.

Dominic James and Bohan Du both were in winning ways as they both won all 3. Dominic was in extra fine form as he didn’t lose a single game. Samuel Hau contributed with another point as well.

Janie Kirby and Ian Kellie were the only singles wins that the away side could muster.

Then Kirby and Kellie linked up to play Bohan and Dominic. The momentum swung with each game played, eventually the experience paid off and the ‘seniors’ won their other point.

Division 4 –

Hillview Church 2
Grange ‘B’ 8

Grange are leading the way in division 4 and starting to pull out a lead after this comfortable win. Len Horwood was Grange’s star man as he won all 3 of his games and another 2 points for John Patterson and Pete Jarrett.

For the home side, Dave Walker was their only contributor with 2 decent wins.

Dave Walker and Faroque Bhatia lost against Len and Pete in 3 straight games.

Rudford ‘E’ 5
Crypt ‘A’ 5

Rudford currently are in the 2nd promotion place but other teams have games in hand so they needed to register a good score to stay in control. Crypt still have hopes of promotion so were always going to put up a fight.

Nigel Cullis scored 2 for the away side along with Josh Robert’s and Adam Crabbe’s points put the pressure on Rudford.

Phil Dixon was in fine form though as he registered a maximum and Fabrizio Trifiro won another 2 for the home side.

Adam and Nigel were in control from start to finish in the doubles, beating Paul Russom and Fabrizio in 3 straight games.

Division 5 –

Phoenix ‘C’ 3
STR ‘C’ 7

Phoenix was against it from the start as they could only provide 2 players on the night, though 3 points from 7 isn’t the most terrible result imaginable.

Mike Burgees winning 2 were the only singles points that Phoenix could win.

As the home side could not put a full team out, STR move to the top of division 5 now, Andrew Howell won both his games plus a point each from Philip Ilic and Steve Tatlow were all the singles points won.

Chris and Mike performed valiantly against Steve and Andrew and came out with the win in 5 games.

Rudford ‘F’ 3
St James 7

Alan Page was again in sparkling form as he won all 3 games without a single game conceded. Graham Ponter’s 2 points came from two toughly fought 5th game matches. St James’s final point came from Trevor Henry.

For the home side, Owen Berry claimed 2 points and Margaret Pang claimed another point and could have won against Graham but just lost 11-8. Mention has to go to Michael Pang who just lost out, again to Graham, 12-10 in the 5th.

Margaret and Owen played against Trevor and Alan in the doubles, the away side winning in 4 games.

One Church ‘B’ 2
Phoenix ‘D’ 8

Phoenix ‘D’ are sitting pretty at the top of division 5 for the time being. This win giving them a slight advantage over STR ‘C’ but Thommies have a game in hand.

Steve and Lucy Parson both claimed hat tricks for the away side, neither losing a single game in the process. Rhys Westall gathered another 2 for Phoenix.

The only singles point for the One Church came from Zoltan Barbely.

Gregory Szlowieniec and Zoltan teamed up against Lucy and Rhys. Against the run of the night, the home side ran away with this match as it was over in 3 games.
