Division 1 –

Week 5 Result – Rudford ‘A’ 9 – 1 Rudford ‘B’

The match result doesn’t reflect how close some of the matches were. Including a single match that went on for 56 minutes!

Lawrence Symonds and Ken Smith both were in fine form as they went the night undefeated. Plus another 2 points from Simon Moysey were all of the ‘A’ sides singles points.

A solitary point came from the Stewart Jones who won this match before the gruelling 56 minutes with Ken Smith.

The doubles was taken by the home side in 3 games against Lee Bruton and Stewart.

Week 5 Result – RSV & Friends ‘B’ 5 – 5 Forest Products

The night started slightly earlier than planned as Graham Slack played all his games from 6.30 at RSV. However, this didn’t stop him claiming a maximum and only losing a game in the process.

Rob Freeman and Ernie Pemberton both added another point each. Ernie could have earned more as all his matches went to a 5th game.

Hamza Bham and Ben Roberts were in good form for RSV. Coming back from being steam rolled by Graham to both win 2 games.

Nick Walker and Ben faced Ernie and Rob. RSV may count this as their luckiest match as they won 15 points from the ball hitting the net. That combined with calm play at key moments was what was needed and the home side claimed the 5th in a final game.

Division 2 –

Phoenix ‘A’ 3
Grange ‘A’ 7

A tight game where Phoenix may feel they should of got more out of this match than they did.

Firstly though, two wins each for Alistair Wood, Mariusz Plaskowicki and Erroll Johnson. Both Mariusz and Alistair could have won another game as they just lost out in 5 games. All of Erroll’s games went to a 5th game and he performed well to win 2 out of 3 of them.

A single win each for Chris East, Angie Brear and Andy Browett for Phoenix though they could have claimed more themselves.

In another 5 game thriller, Plaskowicki and Johnson took on East and Brear. The away side just had enough to see the match out and claim the doubles.

Highnam ‘B’ 6
EDF Energy 4

Even in these early stages EDF are trying to escape the clutches of relegation and 4 points away at Highnam will definitely help their chances.

Brian Cullis was the only maximum scorer on the night plus another point from Andy Howe made it a tight affair.

But with Highnam’s David Crabbe and Dave Gough winning 2, EDF were pegged back. Another win from Jo Duncan meant Highnam were in the lead heading into doubles.

David Crabbe and Jo Duncan played against Dave Moore and Andy Howe. This was a tight battle from start to finish. Only 1 game having more than 2 points separating the teams. But it was the home side who stayed cool under pressure and took the doubles.

Rudford ‘C’ 8
Rudford ‘D’ 2

A win which pushes Rudford ‘C’ even closer to the promotion places. There were two maximums scored by the home side; Dave Pearce and Trevor Oliver both looked in good form. This was followed up by 2 wins from Alan Perratt.

For the away side, only Trevor Seymour could manage a singles match win, Beating Alan in 3 tight games.

The doubles was won by the away side as well, Pete Humble and Trevor Seymour beating Trevor Oliver and Dave in 4 games.

Division 3 –

RSV & Friends ‘C’ 7
Phoenix ‘B’ 3

A good mid-table clash here, RSV coming out victors but the match could have been different.

Jerry Winter won 3 out of 3 for the home side, Pete Dainty scored 2 and another point from Brin Davis, though with 2 matches for Jerry and Brin going to a 5th game it was certainly no walk in the park.

For the away side, 2 points for Allan Lardner and a single point gained by Matt Inman was all Phoenix had to offer.

RSV claimed the doubles, Pete and Brin beating the team of Trevor Cox and Matt to end the night.

Civil Service 9
STR Seniors 1

Civil Service’s chances of victory were improved a lot here as STR was a man down that night.

The home side still had to go out and win the other matches though. Martyn Brown and Paul Daniels did just that as they both claimed maximums. Phil Lewis provided another 2 wins.

Tony Saxton was the only point scorer for the away side though could have claimed another as his match with Martyn went to a 5th game.

Phil and Martyn took the doubles off Janie Kirby and Tony in 3 straight games.

One Church ‘A’ 3
Redcliffe College 7

Redcliffe are slowly starting to pull away at the front of division 3 with another impressive victory.

Vidas Rimkus was the only undefeated player that night, plus another 2 from Andy Taylor and a final point from Sam George put the tie in Redcliffe’s control.

Mark Wilding was looking sharp as he won 2 matches and was narrowly defeated by Vidas in 5 games. Andy Noakes added the home side’s final point with a 5th game decider over Sam.

Vidas and Andy took the doubles match comfortably, beating Mark and Andy in 3.

Week 5 Result – STR Seniors 5 – 5 RSV & Friends ‘C’

A tight result and a fair reflection on how things went throughout the night with a draw as neither side looked fully in control.

Ian Kellie though was in control as he won all 3 of his matches which included two games that went to a decider. Tony Saxton contributed with a further point.

Pete Dainty and Jerry Winter both won 2 matches for RSV plus another point from Brin Davis were all of the singles dealt with.

Ian and Tony combined very well together to take the doubles in 4 games.

Division 4 –

Crypt ‘B’ 5
Hillview Church 5

A battle from lower down the table here and the honours were split on the night.

For Crypt, 2 wins each for Matt Skelding and Beth Williams plus another 1 point from Shirley Bailey.

David Walker was the only player to win all their matches. Another point from Ross Walker led to a deciding doubles match.

The two Walker’s played Skelding and Williams and won the match in 5 very tight games.

Crypt ‘A’ 9
STR ‘B’ 1

Both Andrew Perks and Nigel Cullis were both in fine good, both winning all 3 or their matches. This added with another 2 points from Olly Perks was enough to put Crypt in control.

Harkeerit Kalsi was the scorer of STR’s solitary point of the night. Kalsi then combined with Gavin Kwok to play doubles against Andrew and Olly. The home side had too much and won the doubles in 4 games.

Grange ‘B’ 6
Highnam ‘C’ 4

As Grange look like to be pulling away from the pack picking up 4 points away can be seen as a good result for Highnam.

Highnam can thank James Bird for this close result as he was the only point scorer for the away side, claiming all 3.

2 points each for Len Horwood, John Patterson and Nigel Emberson was good enough for the home side to claim the win.

Stewart Blencowe and James were too much for Len and Nigel and beat the home side in 3.

Week 5 Result – STR ‘B’ 6 – 4 Crypt ‘B’

This match was between the bottom 2 sides in the bid to escape from the clutches of relegation.

STR came out with the win mainly thanks to Harkeerit Kalsi who remained undefeated on the night. A point each from Stuart Carver and Santos Hau made sure the home side came out with at least a draw.

For Crypt, Matthew Emmett claimed 2 whilst Beth Williams and Richard Emmett claimed 1 each.

The team of Harkeerit and Santos took the doubles in 3 games against Beth and Matthew.

Week 3 Result – STR ‘B’ 0 – 10 Highnam ‘C’

Highnam bulldozed their way through this match as they try to catch up for the promotion places.

James Bird, Elke Roselieb and Clare Bell all won 3 with James performing especially well as he didn’t lose a game the whole night.

James and Elke played Santos Hau and Gavin Kwok, the away side proving too much for STR as Highnam went on to win in 3 straight.

Division 5 –

STR ‘C’ 6
St James 4

Even though this was a tight game, only 1 of the matches contained more than 3 games in it.

Alan Page was the main man for St James as he took his regular 3 wins. This was all the singles point the away side could win.

There were 2 wins each for Andrew Howell, Steve Tatlow and Rory Murfitt to claim the victory for STR.

Tatlow and Howell face Trevor Henry and Alan but the away side had too much fire power and took the game in 3 straight games.

Phoenix ‘E’ 5
Phoenix ‘C’ 5

As Phoenix ‘C’ could only field 2 players you feel that this is a match where they should of been able to claim more.

Mike Burgees and Chris Harley both winning 2 for the ‘C’ team with Mike having to grind out a result as two of his matches went to a deciding game.

Chris Morgan and Sam Coleby both won a point each to make the doubles the match decider.

Burgees and Harley combining to take the doubles in 5 tight games against Coleby and Morgan.

One Church ‘B’ 1
Rudford ‘F’ 9

Rudford showed almost utter domination in this match. Head of their attack was Liam James who won a maximum without losing a game. Owen Berry also claimed all 3 and only lost 1 game through the night. Another 2 points from Ben Woodliffe put Rudford in charge.

The only win that One Church could manage was a good performance from Gregory Szlowieniec.

Rudford took the doubles with a simple 3-0 victory to end a very good night for them.
