Division 1 –
RSV & Friends ‘B’ 1
RSV & Friends ‘A’ 9
This match could be seen as either a thumping by the A side or a helping hand to win the title from the B side? Either way, RSV ‘A’ were proving who were in charge.
Yacoob Tilly and Suleiman Saleh remained undefeated throughout the night. Yacoob had to work hard for his wins as two of his matches were decided in a 5th game. Ahmed Bham only won two of his matches but, like Yacoob, had to play two matches that went to a 5th.
The youngster’s only win came from Nick Walker. After losing his 1st two games against Ahmed, he came back to win the next 3 games in an entertaining match.
A slight problem occurring for the youngsters is the inability to see out doubles matches. After Walker and King won the 1st two games, they were pegged back easily by Bham and Tilly to end a disappointing night for the home side.
Optimists 8
Forest Product 2
There were only two matches that went to more than three games and these were both won by Forest Products.
Both of these were won by Graham Slack, only 1 man at the time could have stopped Graham. Unfortunately for Graham, that one man happened to be playing that night.
Darren Griffin claimed his usual 3 from 3 and barely broke a sweat as he didn’t lose a game. Both Christine Williams and Gordon Shaw both won 2 points for the home side.
Graham and Lesley Slack played doubles against the team of Griffin and Williams. After losing the first game, Optimists came back to win the others and finish a successful evening.
Rudford ‘A’ 3
Highnam ‘A’ 7
A highly entertaining game as both teams push to avoid relegation and win division one respectively.
Rudford’s Simon Moysey looked sharp as he won two of his matches and another win from Ken Smith gave the home side a crumb to fight for.
That crumb was then smashed as all of Highnam’s players (Jason Million, James Dance and Chris Sabourin) won two out of three to claim the win.
Moysey and Lawrence Symonds fought hard but were pushed out by the team of Million and Sabourin in three tight games.
Week 6 Result – RSV & Friends ‘A’ 4 – 6 Rudford ‘A’
It seems no result is certain in division 1 as no team is running out ahead.
Ann Barnes was the only undefeated player as she won all 3 plus another 2 from Simon Moysey was all of Rudford’s singles points.
Ahmed Bham was RSV’s main defence with two good wins and another Pete Dainty and Suleiman Saleh gave the home side all their points for the night.
Bham and Saleh played Barnes and Moysey. The away side just having too much and won the doubles in a tight five game match.
Division 2 –
Civil Service ‘A’ 9
Phoenix ‘A’ 1
Civil service showed dominance a control in this match. Three wins for both Paul Singh and Tony Williamson. This added with another two wins from Phil Hatherall put the home side on top.
The only fight back for Phoenix was from the efforts of Angie Brear who fought well to win her match.
Williamson and Singh battled in the doubles for the Civil Service against Chris East and Angie Brear with the home side winning in 4 games.
EDF Energy 3
Rudford ‘C’ 7
Rudford seem firmly in control of division 2 with this win. Dave Pearce contributed with a maximum, losing only a single game whilst doing this. Two wins from Trevor Oliver and Chris Pearce were enough to put the away side ahead.
The only signs of life from home side came from George Evans who produced two fine wins to give EDF some credibility in the match.
Evans then combined with Andy Howe against the Pearce’s. After being two games behind, EDF managed a dramatic comeback and stole the doubles.
Grange ‘A’ 5
Highnam ‘B’ 5
Dave Gough was in fine form as he won all 3 of his matches, losing only 1 game on the night. David Crabbe and Jo Duncan providing a point each were all of the away side’s points.
Grange’s points came in the form of Alistair Wood (2) and Tony Wauchope (2).
Wood and Wauchope played against the team of Crabbe and Duncan. The home side had too much and won the doubles in 3 straight games.
Division 3 –
STR Seniors 2
One Church ‘A’ 8
This battle was to escape the clutches of relegation, even at this early stage.
One Church came out as clear winners. Three wins each for Andy Noakes and Sherif Abdalla plus another two wins from Mark Wilding claimed the win for the away side.
Ian Kellie was the only fight back for STR, though other matches could have been so different.
Ian Kellie and Ken Morritt took on Abdalla and Wilding but were out fought in the deciding game.
Phoenix ‘B’ 4
Civil Service ‘B’ 6
Phoenix can count this night as damage limitation. Matt Inman and Trevor Cox were all of Phoenix’s players for the night so they can count this as a good result. Both Inman and Cox won two games each for the home side.
Along with the 3 automatic points, Paul Daniels was Civil Service’s other winner as he beat both of Phoenix’s players to leave it to a doubles decider.
Daniels and Martyn Brown took on Cox and Inman, beating them in 4 games.
Division 4 –
STR B ‘C’ 3
Rudford ‘E’ 7
Sten Salisbury gave Rudford a good start with 3 wins. Phil Dixon and Paul Russom contributed further with 2 wins apiece.
Harkeerit Kalsi was the only point’s winner in the singles matches for STR as he won 2 of his matches.
Santos Hau and Harkeerit battled the team of Salisbury and Russom and came through in 3 straight games.
Hillview Church 2
Crypt ‘A’ 8
Crypt are now in touching distance of the promotion spots with this victory. Adam Crabbe was showing good form as he won all 3 of his matches. Josh Roberts and Nigel Cullis both gathered two wins for the team.
David Walker was the only line of defence from Hillview. His two wins were the only points for the home side.
After a tight first game Cullis and Roberts took the doubles in 3 straight games against David and Ross Walker.
Highnam ‘C’ 8
Crypt ‘B’ 2
Highnam are still pushing towards that 2nd promotion place with this win where as Crypt are trying to push away from the relegation zone.
Derek Pigott was the only undefeated player on the night. Clare Bell and Stewart Blencowe both contributed with 2 wins each.
The two Matt’s, Skelding and Emmett were Crypt’s only point scorers. Skelding was unlucky to lose again Derek as he just lost our 12-10 in the 5th.
Bell and Pigott faced Skelding and Shirley Bailey in a tight doubles match. But the home side just had enough and took the doubles in a final game.
Division 5 –
St James 7
Phoenix ‘E’ 3
Alan Page steam rolled through his games; the maximum points any of the opposition could win was only 3. Trevor Henry was in good form as well as he won all 2 as well.
A single point each from Rachel Johnson, Mark Adamson and Sam Coleby were all the away side could manage.
Page and Henry comftably took the doubles in 3 games against Adamson and Johnson.
Rudford ‘F’ 9
STR ‘C’ 1
A dominant display from Rudford as they now push their way further up the table with this win.
Owen Berry and Liam James scored hat tricks for the home side and Margaret Pang added another two to put Rudford in a strong position.
The only point for STR came from Andrew Howell who beat Margaret in 5 tight games; Andrew just came through 14-12 in the 5th.
Berry and James controlled the doubles, beating Rory Murfitt and Andrew in 3 games.
Phoenix ‘C’ 4
Phoenix ‘D’ 6
A grudge match that didn’t end as you might expect with ‘D’ side now stretching their legs in the race for promotion.
Lucy Parsons won all 3 of her matches for the away side plus a win a piece for Sarah Parsons and Rhys Westall.
Two wins each for Mike Burgees and Bob Vallander were all of the home side’s points. Chris Harley was unfortunate not to win a point as two of his games went to a decider.
The doubles was an entertaining game, Burgees and Harley faced the team of Lucy and Sarah Parsons and the away side came through in 5 tough games to give them the victory.
