Division 1 –
RSV & Friends ‘B’ 3
Highnam ‘A’ 7
Due to communication problems RSV could only supply two players on the night.
Hamza Bham was the only singles point scorer for the home side as contributed with two wins. He could of added another but just lost out to Jason Million in the 5th 10-12.
Jason won his other game too to give him 2 out of 2 on the night. James Dance and Richard Maddrell both contributed with a win apiece.
Bham and Ben Roberts battled as hard as they can and took the doubles in a nail biting finish with a 11-9 win in the fifth.
Forest Products 8
Rudford ‘B’ 2
Once again, Graham Slack was top dog on the night for in form Forest Products as he won all three of his games. Rob Freeman and Ernie Pemberton both claimed two wins each to give the home side a comfortable lead.
Lee Burton and Stuart Greene were Rudford’s only point winners against Ernie and Rob respectively.
Slack and Freeman were too much for Bruton and Green and took the doubles in 3 games straight.
Division 2 –
Rudford ‘D’ 8
Phoenix ‘A’ 2
Pete Humble was the star performer on the night winning all his matches. Glyn Lloyd and Trevor Seymour both contributed with two wins each to make the match Rudford’s.
Phoenix’s only defiance came from Dave Smith as he won two points for the away side.
Humble and Seymour made the doubles look easy as they won it in 3 straight games against Angie Brear and Chris East.
EDF Energy 7
Grange Baptist ‘A’ 3
Celebrations was the word of the night for EDF as they registered their first win of the season, maybe a building block to move on from?
Two wins each for the home side put EDF in a dominating position. Brian Cullis, George Evans and Andy Howe all managed a pair of good wins though not against the same opponents.
Mariusz Plaskowicki was Grange’s main defence with two well earned points plus another win from Alistair Wood gave this match a slight competitive edge.
Evans and Howe won the doubles against Plaskowicki and Wood in 4 games to make the points difference slightly greater.
Division 3 –
Redcliffe College 8
STR Seniors 2
It’s now Redcliffe’s division to lose as they’ve pulled an impressive 17 point gap on the next team.
Vidas Rimkus gave the home side a good start scoring a maximum and not losing a single game, Richard Johnson and Sam George both provided with two wins each.
Ian Kellie was the only point scorer for STR as he contributed with two competent wins.
Rimkus and Johnson combined together against Tony Saxton and Kellie. After losing the first game, Redcliffe came back to win the doubles in 4.
STR ‘A’ 7
RSV & Friends ‘C’ 3
Dominic James was again in top form as he won all three of his matches. Chris Green contributed well with another two points and a final win from Bohan Du was all of STR’s single points.
One point each for Pete Dainty, Brinley Davis and Mike Gray gave the away side some credibility in this tie.
Dainty and Davis were outfought in the doubles and James combined with Green to steamroll the doubles in three straight games.
Phoenix ‘B’ 6
One Church ‘A’ 4
A tight match with two even matched teams could only be separated by one final tight match.
Matt Inman and Allan Lardner won games each for the home side and another win from Steve Parsons put the match in Phoenix’s hands.
Sherif Abdulla performed well for One Church and without losing the Allan Lardner in five close matches the score line could have been very different. A point each from Mark Wilding and Andy Noakes meant that the doubles would be the decider.
Abdulla and Noakes did have control at one point and were very close to claiming the doubles but Inman along with Lardner dug deep and came back to win the doubles and the match.
Division 4 –
Grange ‘B’ 9
Crypt ‘B’ 1
Pete Jarrett and John Patterson both gave the home side 3 points each as Grange started to pull away. Len Horwood contributed with another two points.
Matt Emmett was Crypt’s only point scorer on this otherwise crushing night.
The two Matt’s, Skelding and Emmett, had the chance to win another point for the away side but squandered their chance as from being 2-1 up they lost 11-8 in the fifth.
Highnam ‘C’ 8
Crypt ‘A’ 2
Highnam did their promotion chances no harm here as they managed an impressive score line against a mid table team though their chances were helped by the fact Crypt could only field two players.
James Bird gathered two points and another point from Derek Pigott and Stewart Blencowe made Highnam’s night a bit easier.
Adam Crabbe was Crypt’s only point scorer as he gathered two points for the away side.
Bird and Blencowe won the doubles in 4 tight games against Crabbe and Nigel Cullis to end a comftable night for Highnam.
Hillview Church 0
Rudford ‘E’ 10
The writing seemed to be on the wall right from the start for Hillview as they could only field two players on the night.
Sten Salisbury, Phil Dixon and Fabrizio Trifiro all still performed extremely well as all three won the maximum amount of games they could win with Phil performing especially well as he didn’t lose a single game throughout the night.
Fabrizio and Dixon then went on to take the doubles in 3 straight games in a demolition of Hillview.
Division 5 –
St James 6
Phoenix ‘D’ 4
Two teams fighting not to be Gloucester’s bottom side this season ended extremely tightly with St James just squeezing out a win.
The usual three wins for Alan Page alone with another two from Trevor Henry meant Phoenix were up against it from early on.
Phoenix did fight back though with two wins from Steve Parsons and a point each from Sarah Parsons and Jacob Elwin made the match go to a doubles decider.
Even though not competing in the singles, Graham Ponter joined St James’s attack for the doubles with Alan Page as they took on the Parsons’. Having a fresh player seemed to make the difference as the home side won this dramatic doubles match in five tightly fought games to take the victory.
Phoenix ‘C’ 8
One Church ‘B’ 2
With this win Phoenix are just in sight of the 2nd promotion spot whilst One Church are sitting bottom of the table.
Mike Burgess and Bob Vallender both won maximums and another two points gave Phoenix all their points.
One Church’s only singles point came from the efforts of Zoltan Barbely who competed well to gather this win.
Gregory Szlowieniec and Barbely combined to play against Harley and Burgess. The away side performing splendidly taking the doubles in 4 games.
Sir Thomas Rich’s ‘C’ 10
Phoenix ‘E’ 0
This win takes Thommies closer to promotion hopes as they force a tiny hint of daylight between themselves and Phoenix ‘D’. For Phoenix’s ‘E’ side though they can only dream of promotion as they are now forced to joint bottom of the table.
Steve Tatlow, Filip Ilic and Rory Murfitt all showing outstanding performances as they won 3 out of 3.
Ilic and Murfitt won the doubles in 3 straight games against Mark Adamson and Chris Morgan.
