Gloucester Table Tennis Association Finals & Presentation Evening  - 2009/10 Season

Gloucester Table Tennis Association recently held their annual end of the season 'Finals & Presentation' Evening.

Open Singles

William Dawe (Debenhams)  V  Darren Griffin (Optimists)

In a much-anticipated match between familiar old rivals William Dawe and Darren Griffin the expected high standard of play ensued.  Darren emerged victorious in three straight games 11 – 9, 11 – 7, 11 – 9 but the quality was evident from both sides of the table.  Darren has now collected this title twenty-two times having first won it at the tender age of 14!

Ladies Singles

Ann Barnes (Rudford)  V  Christine Williams (Debenhams)

Ann Barnes defending her title from last year won in four 11 – 9, 8 – 11, 13 – 11, 11 – 5 against the impressive Christine Williams.  A nice contrast in styles made for an entertaining match in what was a close affair, particularly over the first three games.  Ann Barnes then proceeded to pull away, securing the win and retaining the trophy for an impressive fourth consecutive year.

Open Plate

Jason Million (Debenhams)  V  Mariusz Plaskowicki (British Energy)

Entertaining game played in good spirits between Jason Million of this season's champions Debenhams and Mariusz Plaskowicki who has also had a very successful season with British Energy who finished top of division three.  Some good rallies ensued with Mariusz always looking to attack early but it was Jason's experience that paved the way, playing a more patient style which earned him an 11 – 8, 11 – 6, 11 – 8 victory.

Open Doubles

Darren Griffin (Optimists) & Gordon Shaw (Optimists)
