Weekly Reports - Week 11
Division 1
Forest Products ‘A’ 2 v Debenhams ‘A’ 8
Reigning champions Debenhams ‘A’ put on a powerful display with William Dawe winning all three of his matches and teammates Jason Million and Matt Kittle both coming through with two further wins apiece. Home team resistance came from Russell Hayward, who triumphed in two of his matches and also managed to push William Dawe in their match. All however to no avail, as Debenhams also clinched the doubles and a comfortable away win.
Civil Service ‘A’ 5 v Rudford ‘B’ 5
Despite Yacoob Tiley’s three wins and a further win each from Paul Daniels and Peter Boruc, the hosts only held a one point lead over visitors Rudford as the fixture entered the final match of the night. Rudford’s Mel Garlick and Stuart Greene, with two wins and one win each respectively during the course of the evening, proceeded to win the doubles in four games and this coupled with an earlier win from Rob Deeley ensured the spoils were shared.
Division 2
Rudford ‘D’ 8 v Highnam ‘A’ 2
Vital points wasted as Highnam failed to muster three players on the night in what was always going to be a tough encounter away at Rudford ‘D’. Rudford’s Colin Bruton and Highnam’s James Dance, both going well in Division two this season, produced a five game thriller with Bruton recovering from two games down to clinch victory in five. Geoff Perratt and Kim Selfe contributed a further win each and this combined with three walk over points meant a comfortable victory was assured despite two wins for Highnam’s James Dance.
British Energy ‘B’ 4 v Civil Service ‘B’ 6
Victory was assured when Ahmed Bham and Suleman Salehbnai, already with two wins each, combined in the doubles to win in three straight games. This alligned with an earlier win from Peter Boruc proved enough, despite two wins from Charles Campbell and one each from Matthew Sproston and Tony Wauchope of the home team.
Division 3
Rudford ‘F’ 0 v Redcliffe College 10
Redcliffe College pushed themselves right back in to the promotion frame with an away demolition of Rudford ‘F’. Life was made easier for Redcliffe as the home team could only field two players. Richard Johnson, Vidas Rimkus and Andy Taylor were in no mood to let this opportunity pass them by as they took everything that was on offer for the loss of only four games.
British Energy ‘C’ 5 v Rudford ‘E’ 5
Neil Dowding, leading the way in division three this season, was the star performer on the night as he won all of his matches. A victory each from Mariusz Plaskowicki and Allan Lardner was negated by a win each from Rudford’s Pete Humble and Rich Spry and with Gordon Wallace winning two matches this meant that the away team still had a chance of snatching a draw as the doubles loomed. Pete Humble and Rich Spry combined to win in three close games, all by the narrowest of margins and ensure honours were even in this fixture.
Division 4
St James Church 3 v Optimists ‘C’ 7
St James Alan Page stood resolute as the Optimists onslaught came and emerged personally triumphant with three wins on the night. This however was never going to be enough as Nick Walker, Ben Roberts and Matt Inman all won two matches each and then won the doubles to maintain their challenge at the top of division four this season.
Robinswood ‘A’ 3 v Sir Thomas Rich’s ‘A’ 7
Ian Kellie again picked up three wins and this supplemented with two wins apiece from Janie Kirby and Tony Saxton was enough to clinch another win for Sir Thomas Rich’s ‘A’ on the road. Mark Wilding picked up two valuable wins for the home team and then combined with Graham Warman to clinch a further precious point, with a five game win in the doubles.
