Weekly Reports - Week 13
Division 1
Rudford ‘B’ 4 v Forest Products 6
Rob Freeman lost 17 – 15 in the fifth of his match with Lee Bruton and then due to an unforeseen circumstance was unable to complete his other two matches in this fixture. However, three wins from John Gaskell and two from Don Sweeney meant that Forest Products actually lead by one point as the evening entered the doubles. Rob Deeley had earlier provided the home team with two points and a further point each came from Lee Bruton and Mel Garlick, who narrowly lost her other encounter with Don Sweeney 15 – 13 in the fifth. The doubles turned out to be another close encounter with Forest’s John Gaskell and Don Sweeney clinching it 11 – 8 in the fifth and with it an away victory on the night.
Rudford ‘B’ 10 v Optimists ‘B’ 0
This bottom of the table clash between two teams who on paper looked to be closely matched, ended up surprisingly being a completely one sided affair. Optimists did not help their cause, only able to field two players in this crucial clash and Rudford’s Lee Bruton, Rob Freeman and Stuart Greene took all of the points on offer. Optimist Steve Greening came close in his match with Lee Bruton, losing 11 – 8 in the fifth and Luke Groves also lost 12 – 10 in the fifth of his match against Stuart Greene but overall the night belonged completely to Rudford.
Division 2
British Energy ‘A’ 2 v Rudford ‘C’ 8
British Energy’s Chris Pearce leads the way in division two and came through a close five game match with George Evans to once again remain undefeated on the night. Dave Pearce and Keith Foord provided a further two wins apiece whilst the home teams points came from Dave Moore and George Evans, who came through a close match with Keith Foord, winning 11 – 9 in the fifth. The match already belonged to Rudford but this did not devalue the doubles which was another close affair with Chris and Dave Pearce emerging triumphant 11 – 8 in the fifth.
Rudford ‘D’ 4 v British Energy ‘B’ 6
Charles Campbell was in fine form for the away team as he won all three of his matches without the loss of a single game and this was complemented by further wins from Tony Wauchope and Mathew Sproston, who won his match in the fifth against Geoff Perratt. This meant that two wins for the home teams Chris Beard and a win apiece for Kim Selfe and Geoff Perratt ensured there was only one point separating the teams as the evening entered the doubles. Charles Campbell and Mathew Sproston then combined to win in three straight games and secure a valuable away victory for British Energy.
Division 3
British Energy ‘C’ 8 v Grange Baptist ‘A’ 2
Neil Dowding was once again impressive as he won all three of his matches without the loss of a single game to maintain British Energy’s momentum in their challenge at the top of division three. Trevor Cox lost a close five game match with Alistair Wood but went on to win his remaining two matches and similarly, Dave Eaton lost his match with Alistair Wood but also went on to win his remaining two matches. Trevor Cox and Neil Dowding then paired up to win the doubles in convincing fashion.
Wotton ‘A’ 1 v Rudford ‘E’ 9
Rudford ‘E’ kept up their challenge at the top of division three with a resounding away win at Wotton. Rudford dominated with Pete Humble winning all three of his matches without the loss of a single game and Gordon Wallace also winning his three matches. Trevor Seymour won a further two matches and then combined with Pete Humble to take the doubles 11 – 6 in the fifth. Wotton’s only point on the night came from Chris East though Len Harwood came close in his match against Gordon Wallace, losing in the fifth.
Rudford ‘F’ 4 v Civil Service ‘C’ 6
Notable performance on the night from Civil Service’s Umair Ganny who won all three of his matches and this was aligned with a victory each from Brin Davis and Mike Gray. However, two wins apiece for the home team’s Sten Salisbury and Elaine Marshall meant that Rudford still had hope of salvaging a draw, only trailing by one point as they entered the doubles. This hope however was quickly quashed as Umair Ganny and Mike Gray combined to win in three straight games.
Division 4
Civil Service ‘D’ 9 v Robinswood Church 1
It’s tight at the top of division four and this emphatic win keeps Civil Service right in the mix. Martyn Brown came through a close five game match with Graham Warman to win his three matches and Hamza Bham also won all three of his without the loss of a single game. Phil Lewis provided able support with two further wins and then combined with Hamza Bham to win the doubles in four games. Andy Noakes claimed Robinswood’s only point on the night.
St James Church 3 v Sir Thomas Rich’s ‘A’ 7
Two of the leading player in division four met in this fixture with the home teams Alan Page emerging victorious over the away teams Ian Kellie, avenging his earlier season loss. However, the night belonged to the away team with two wins each from Ian Kellie, Janie Kirby and Abdu Afifi who was playing up on the night, along with a win in the doubles. A familiar three wins for St James Church’s Alan page was never really going to be enough, however positive news for St James Church is that newcomer Ibby Bham is improving with each appearance and his first win cannot be far away.
Sir Thomas Rich’s ‘A’ 9 v Crypt ‘A’ 1
Sir Thomas Rich’s regained top spot in division four with a resounding home win against Crypt ‘A’. Ian Kellie and Ken Moritt won three games apiece for the home team with Tony Saxton providing another two. Luke McFarland managed to claim his team’s solitary point of the evening though Nick Chapman can consider himself unfortunate, losing two close five game matches.
Division 5
Crypt ‘D’ 0 v Rudford ‘G’ 10
Table topping Rudford ‘G’ travelled to bottom of the table Crypt ‘D’ and came away with all the points that were on offer. Three wins apiece for Will English, Luke Woodcliffe and Phil Wallace were supplemented further by a victory in the doubles. Crypt David Holman can consider himself slightly unfortunate, taking all of his games the full distance losing each one in a close fifth game.
Crypt ‘B’ 8 v Sir Thomas Rich’s ‘D’ 2
Sir Thomas Rich’s ‘D’ made a difficult fixture virtually impossible when they only managed to field two players for this away match at Crypt ‘B’. Whilst Bohan Du did manage to claim two valuable points for the away team and also take in-form Ben Tegg to a fifth game, Crypt’s were not to be denied. Ben Tegg lead the way with three wins and was ably supported by Josh Roberts and Steve Parsons who both won two matches apiece.
Sir Thomas Rich’s ‘C’ 6 v Crypt ‘C’ 4
Crypt Adam Crabbe’s unbeaten record came to an end against another form player, Sir Thomas Rich’s Chris Green who remained undefeated on the night. Further wins apiece for Liam Foylan and Sammy Hau opposed by two wins each for Adam Crabbe and Rhys Hayward, who came through two close five game matches, meant that the overall result hinged on the doubles. Chris Green proceeded to partner Sammy Hau to a win in three straight games and ensure victory went to the home team.
