Weekly Reports - Week 14

Division 1

Debenhams ‘A’ 8 v Civil Service ‘A’ 2
A comfortable home victory for champions Debenhams with three wins apiece for Bill Dawe and Jason Million and a further point coming from John Tegg. John Pollard and Yacoob Tiley both claimed a win each for the away team but the result was never in doubt and Bill Dawe and John Tegg rounded the evening off by winning the doubles in three straight games to maintain their momentum at the top of the league.

Optimists ‘A’ 10 v Forest Products ‘A’ 0
Optimists showed no mercy as visitors Forest Products were crushed in ruthless fashion. Gordon Shaw, Duncan Toon and Darren Griffin won all of their matches for the loss of only two games and are hot on the heels of table leaders Debenhams ‘A’.

Debenhams ‘B’ 8 v Rudford ‘B’ 2
Chris Ball and Christine Williams both came through two five game matches each and then paired up to triumph in the doubles, both remaining undefeated on the night. A further win from Phil Hatherall was enough to secure victory for the home team despite a win each for Rudford’s Colin Bruton and Mel Garlick, who took all of her matches the full distance.

Rudford ‘A’ 2 v Debenhams ‘A’ 8
An improbable victory for Rudford in this fixture against the reigning champions Debenhams became an impossible task when the home team could only manage to field two players on the night. Bill Dawe and Matt Kittle provided three wins apiece and with two more supplied by Jason Million, victory belonged to the away team despite Ann Barnes claiming a win for the home side and also combining with John Davis to take the doubles match 11 – 9 in the fifth.

Division 2

Civil Service ‘B’ 6 v Debenhams ‘C’ 4
Debenhams ‘C’ won four of the seven matches that were played during the course of this fixture however failure to field three players meant that victory belonged to Civil Service. Barrie Pope won two matches for the away team and then combined with Chris White, who had one win himself, to victory in the doubles but all to no avail as Ahmed Bham lead the way for the home team winning both of his matches and Peter Boruc providing the other win.

Highnam ‘A’ 8 v British Energy ‘A’ 2
Jo Pigott was the star performer for Highnam, coming through a five game match with Dave McIntosh to remain undefeated on the night. Two further victories each were supplied by Dave Gough and Richard Maddrell in what was a convincing win for the home team. George Evans and Dave Moore both claimed valuable points for the away team, coming through hard fought five game matches to claim a point each.

British Energy ‘B’ 3 v Rudford ‘C’ 7
Two wins apiece for Alan Perratt, David Pearce and Keith Foord meant that victory was assured for table topping Rudford ‘C’ as they entered the doubles. Allan Perratt and David Pearce then paired up to secure victory in three straight games against British Energy ‘B’s Tony Wauchope and Charles Campbell who had earlier provided two wins and one win each respectively.

Debenhams ‘C’ 5 v Highnam ‘A’ 5
Richard Maddrell lead the way for the away team with three wins and this combined with a further point from Barney Upton negated the two victories apiece for Debenhams Chris White and Graham Chandler. Barrie Pope’s win was all that separated the teams as they entered the final match of the evening, where Richard Maddrell and Jo Pigott proceeded to pair up and emerge victorious in the fifth game 11 – 9, ensuring honours between the teams were shared on the night.

Division 3

Civil Service ‘C’ 0 v Rudford ‘E’ 10
Rudford ‘E’ travelled to Civil Service ‘C’ and came away with a comprehensive victory taking all the points on offer. Trevor Seymour, Rich Spry and Pete Humble won all of their matches in this one-sided affair to maintain Rudford’s momentum at the top of division three.

Rudford ‘F’ 4 v British Energy ‘C’ 6
Leading the way in division three is British Energy ‘C’s Neil Dowding who once again won all three of his matches without the loss of a single game in this fixture against Rudford ‘F’. This combined with two victories for Trevor Cox meant that the away team lead by only one solitary point as the doubles match loomed due to two wins from Rudford’s Sten Salisbury and one apiece from Phil Dixon and Dave Vye. Dave Eaton and Neil Dowding then combined to win in three straight games and secure a victory for the away team.

Redcliffe College 9 v Wotton 1
Redcliffe College won this match convincingly with three wins apiece for Richard Johnson and Vidas Rimkus, two more came from Andy Taylor who then combined with Vidas Rimkus to win the doubles. Wotton’s Chris East took two of his matches the full distance and managed to claim his teams only point when beating Andy Taylor 11 – 4 in the fifth.

Division 4

Civil Service ‘D’ 3 v Optimists ‘C’ 7
Ben Roberts was the star performer on the night as he remained undefeated and then proceeded to combine with George Evans, who won two matches himself, to win an exciting doubles match in four games. Matt Inman provided Optimists other point while Civil Service’s points came from the impressive Hamza Bham and dependable Phil Lewis, with two wins and one win each respectively.

Highnam ‘B’ 3 v Civil Service ‘D’ 7
Civil Service’s Hamza Bham and Phil Lewis both came through two five game matches to register three wins and then proceeded to pair up and win the doubles in four games. Valuable points for Highnam came in the guise of one win apiece for Huw Darch, Stewart Blencowe and Derek Pigott, however the night belonged to Civil Service ‘D’ who remain in the mix at the top of division four.

Sir Thomas Rich’s ‘B’ 4 v Highnam ‘B’ 6
Two wins apiece for the home teams Abdu Affifi and Edward Watson were negated by two wins apiece for the away teams Stewart Blencowe and Huw Darch which meant that Derek Pigott’s win was all that separated the teams as the fixture entered the doubles match. Stewart Blencowe and Huw Darch then paired up to win in four games and ensure overall victory belonged to Highnam on the night.

Crypt ‘A’ 6 v St James Church 4
Crypt’s Adam Crabbe and Steve Parsons both playing up in this fixture emerged with credit as they both won two of their three matches. Team mate Nick Chapman also won two matches but all three struggled against the consistent Alan Page of St James Church, who also later combined with Trevor Henry to win the doubles in four games.

Division 5

St Peter’s 7 v Crypt ‘D’ 3
This bottom of the table clash could have been a close affair had Crypt ‘D’ been able to field three players, especially as they managed to win three of the seven singles matches that were actually played on the night and only lost the doubles in the fifth. St Peter’s Ben Hope lead the way for the home team as he won both of his matches and Sam Hobbs chipped in with a further victory.

Crypt ‘D’ 1 v Crypt ‘B’ 9
In this derby match Crypt ‘D’ were supreme winning all but one of the matches on offer. Three wins apiece for Ben Tegg and Josh Roberts with a further two coming from Ian Ewart were followed up by another win in the doubles. Crypt ‘D’s solitary point was gleaned by David Holman following a tense five game thriller with Ian Ewart who clawed back a two game deficit only to lose the fifth 11 – 3.

Crypt ‘C’ 4 v Rudford ‘G’ 6
Pete Rimmer undefeated in division five was once again the standout performer for Rudford as he won all of his matches, ably supported by Luke Woodcliffe and Will English who won two matches and one match each respectively. Adam Crabbe won two matches for the home team, Rhys Hayward chipped in with another win and both then combined to win the doubles in three straight games, but this was not enough and victory on the night belonged to Rudford.
