Weekly Reports - Week 16
Division 1
Optimists ‘B’ 4 v Debenhams ‘B’ 6
Christine Williams lead the way for Debenhams ‘B’ with three wins and this impressive performance was ably supported by Phil Hatherall and Chris Ball who provided a further two wins and one win each respectively. Optimists’ Luke Groves, Steve Greening and Alan Churchill proved stubborn opposition, each grinding out a five game win and then also going on to win the doubles in another five game match.
Division 2
British Energy ‘A’ 3 v Civil Service ‘B’ 7
Suleman Salehbnai trailing 5 – 2 in the fifth game of his match with George Evans won nine of the next ten points to clinch victory and remained undefeated on the night with three wins. This coupled with two wins apiece for Paul Singh and Ahmed Bham ensured an away victory for Civil Service. Mariusz Plaskowicki and George Evans salvaged a point apiece for the home team and later combined in the doubles to claim a further point.
Rudford ‘C’ 2 v Highnam ‘A’ 8
An impressive away victory for Highnam ‘A’ in this fixture with division two leaders Rudford ‘C’ keeps them within touching distance of the top spot. Once again Richard Maddrell lead the way for the away team with three wins and this combined with two further wins each for James Dance and Dave Gough ensured a comfortable night. Chris Pearce, who is the leading performer so far this season in division two, claimed the home teams only points on the night with two victories.
Division 3
Wotton ‘A’ 3 v Grange Baptist 7
This could have been a very close encounter had Wotton been able to field three players in this fixture. Two wins and one win respectively for the home team’s Chris East and Norman Saunders were negated by a similar two wins and one win for the away team’s Alistair Wood and Errol Johnson. This meant that in reality all that separated the teams was a thrilling doubles match which the away team took 12 – 10 in the fifth.
British Energy ‘C’ 9 v Civil Service ‘C’ 1
No signs that the Christmas break had hampered the form of division three’s leading performer Neil Dowding as he once again won all three of his matches without the loss of a single game. Also in fine form was Mariusz Plaskowicki with three wins and Trevor Cox with two wins. On a night to forget for Civil Service ‘C’, special mention to youngster Hamza Bham who was playing up on the night and came through a very close match with British Energy’s Trevor Cox to win 11 – 8 in the fifth.
Division 4
St James Church 3 v Robinswood Church 7
Despite a familiar three wins for Alan Page of the home team, two wins apiece for Mark Wilding, Graham Warman and Jamie Lavender combined with a further point in the doubles was enough to ensure a victory for the away team in this encounter at the foot of division four.
