Weekly Reports - Week 6
Division 1
Debenhams ‘A’ 9 v Rudford ‘B’ 1
William Dawe was once again in imperious form for the reigning champions winning all three of his matches without the loss of a single game, as indeed was Jason Million who only dropped one game on the night. This allied with two wins for John Tegg and a further victory in the doubles completed a comprehensive victory against Rudford for whom Lee Bruton managed their only win.

Optimists ‘A’ 6 v Civil Service ‘A’ 4
Darren Griffin won all three of his matches without the loss of a single game and this coupled with two wins from Mike Kiff who lost a close match with Abu Saleh by two points in the fifth, and one win for Duncan Toon proved to be enough for an Optimists win. Abu Saleh recorded two wins and then paired up with Yacoob Tily to come back from two games down to win the doubles match in the fifth.
Debenhams ‘B’ 7 v Optimists ‘B’ 3
Two home wins for Phil Hatherall and one for Chris Williams were negated on the night by Optimists Steve Greening and Luke Groves with two wins and one win respectively. The night however belonged once more to undefeated Chris Ball who again won all three of his matches for Debenhams.
Division 2
Rudford ‘D’ 5 v Debenhams ‘C’ 5
Two victories each for Debenhams Chris White and Tony Williamson and a further win for Barrie Pope were not enough to claim a victory for the away team on the night. This was due mainly to the impressive form of Rudford’s Colin Bruton who came through a close five game match with Debenhams’ Barrie Pope to then partner Stewart Jones to victory in the doubles and snatch a draw for the home team.
Highnam ‘A’ 7 v Rudford ‘C’ 3
Richard Maddrell and James Dance were in fine form for the home team as they won all three of their matches each and then proceeded to team up and win the doubles. This was enough to secure the victory though Chris Pearce, Keith Foord and Trevor Oliver all won one match each for the away team.
Civil Service ‘B’ 6 v British Energy ‘A’ 4
Paul Singh of the home team came through a close five game match with opponent Mariusz Plaskowicki to win all of his singles matches on the evening. This allied with two wins for Suleman Salehbnai and one for Ahmed Bham meant that victory was assured before they suffered defeat in the doubles against Mariusz Plaskowicki and Dave Moore of British Energy who had earlier also won two matches and one match respectively.
Division 3
Grange Baptist ‘A’ 7 v Wootton 3
Star performer on the night was Alistair Wood who won all of his matches and then teamed up with Errol Johnson who won two matches himself, to gain victory in five games in the doubles. A further win for Nigel Emberson meant that a comfortable victory was secured despite a win each for the away teams Len Horwood, Alan Williams and Chris East.
Civil Service ‘C’ 2 v British Energy ‘C’ 8
Leading the way in Division three so far, Neil Dowding’s fine form continued for British Energy as he won all three of his matches. A feat equalled by Allan Lardner who also won his three matches which allied with two wins for Trevor Cox meant that victory was assured on the night despite a home win for Brinley Davis, who also had a further win when teaming up with Junaid Surty in the doubles.
Redcliffe College 4 v Rudford ‘E’ 6
On a night where six of the ten matches went the full distance, it was only fitting that the match result was decided when Rudford snatched victory in the fifth game of the doubles by two points, thanks to Pete Humble and Rich Spry who beat a valiant Vidas Rimkus and Andy Taylor. Pete Humble was undefeated on the night and there were also two wins apiece for team-mate Trevor Seymour and Redcliffe College’s Richard Johnson.

Rudford ‘F’ 5 v Grange Baptist ‘A’ 5
Two home wins for Sten Salisbury and Dave Vye and a further win for Will English meant that the result of this match hinged on the outcome of the doubles. Errol Johnson who had been in deft form all evening, winning all three of his matches, paired up with Nigel Emberson who had one win himself, to clinch a victory in the doubles and ensure honours were even on the night.
Division 4
Highnam ‘B’ 0 v Optimists ‘C’ 10
A crushing win for Optimists in a match were the scoreline does not reflect how close some of the games in reality were. Nick Walker came through two close five game matches with Derek Pigott and Stewart Blencowe, while Matt Inman also came through a close five game match with Stewart Blencowe, to win all of their matches. Ben Roberts was also in impressive form for Optimists, as he also remained undefeated on the night.

Sir Thomas Rich’s ‘A’ 4 v Civil Service ‘D’ 6
First defeat of the season for Sir Thomas Rich’s as Civil Service scored an impressive away win. Phil Lewis who had a busy evening playing twenty games, won two matches for Civil Service, as did Hamza Bham. In response, Ian Kellie and Tony Saxton won two each for the home team which meant that Martyn Brown’s victory over Janie Kirby by two points in the fifth game of the opening match of the evening was all that separated the teams as they went in to the doubles. Once again a close match ensued with Civil Service winning the fifth game to claim victory on the night.
Crypt ‘A’ 4 v Sir Thomas Rich’s ‘B’ 6
Elliot King lead the way with three wins for the away team and this along with two wins for Ed Watson and one win for Will Lee was enough to give Sir Thomas Rich's victory on the night. Luke McFarland put up stiff resistance with two wins and there was a further valuable point from Nick Chapman.
Division 5
St Peters 4 v Crypt ‘B’ 6
Ben Tegg won all three matches for the away team and was ably supported with one win apiece from Josh Roberts and Ian Ewart. Ben Hope won two of his matches for the home team and with one win apiece for Sam Hobbs and Jake Haywood this meant that the result all hung on the outcome of the doubles. Despite a strong start for St Peters, Ben Tegg and Josh Roberts won the match in four games and with it overall victory on the night belonged to Crypts.
Sir Thomas Rich’s ‘C’ 9 v Crypt ‘D’ 1
The doubles was the only success for the away team on a night were the home team were in dominant form. Liam Foylan came through a close five game match with Simon Parkinson, while Sammy Hau came through an even closer five game match with David Holman, winning both of the last games 13 – 11, to both claim three wins on the night as did team-mate Chris Green.
Crypt ‘C’ 6 v Sir Thomas Rich’s ‘D’ 4
Undefeated this season so far, Adam Crabbe continued in the same vein as he won all three of his matches. This coupled with two wins for Rhys Hayward and one win for Duncan Crabbe proved to be enough for a home victory. Bohan Du won two matches for the visitors and then paired up with Gavin Kwok who also won one singles match, to claim another valuable point in the doubles.
