Weekly Reports - Week 9

Division 1

Debenhams ‘A’ 9 v Debenhams ‘B’ 1
Debenhams ‘A’ were in no mood for slip-ups in their quest to retain the title as they cruised to a convincing win against Debenhams ‘B’. William Dawe and John Tegg won all three matches for the home team and Matt Kittle added another two. Debenhams ‘B’ did manage a win through Christine Williams after a close five game match against Matt Kittle and honourable mention goes to Alec Robinson who managed to push William Dawe to a fifth game, although ultimately to no avail as he lost 11 – 8.

Optimists ‘A’ 9 v Optimists ‘B’ 1
Optimists ‘A’ were in crushing form as they beat Optimists ‘B’ convincingly. Three wins apiece for Gordon Shaw and Darren Griffin with two more from Duncan Toon ensured a comfortable night. Alan Churchill earned his team’s solitary point and Steve Greening played well, losing a close, five game match with Duncan Toon and also managing the rare feat of taking a game off Darren Griffin.

Forest Products ‘A’ 3 v Civil Service ‘A’ 7
John Pollard lead the charge for Civil Service with three wins in this away fixture at Forest Products. Abu Saleh followed with two more wins and Yacoob Tily, who lost two close five game matches, provided a further victory.
Staunch defiance for the home team came in the shape of Rob Freeman, who won two hard fought five game matches during the course of the evening and a further win was provided by Don Sweeney.

Rudford ‘A’ 6 v Rudford ‘B’ 4
Ann Barnes came through a close five game match with Rob Deeley, who himself won two matches, to remain undefeated during the course of the evening. Lee Bruton and Stuart Greene contributed a win each for the ‘B’ team to ensure the overall result was still up for grabs as the night entered the doubles. Ann Barnes then combined with Paul Smyth, who had earlier won two matches, to win the doubles and ensure victory belonged to the ‘A’ team.

Division 2

Rudford ‘D’ 5 v Rudford ‘C’ 5
Whilst Trevor Oliver was taken the full distance by Stewart Jones, he remained the star performer on the night with three wins for Rudford ‘C’. Two further wins were provided by Alan Perratt and Dave Pearce which meant that with two wins apiece for their opponents, courtesy of Colin Bruton and Chris Beard, there was only one point in the match as the evening neared it’s climax. Colin Bruton and Chris Beard then combined for Rudford ‘D’ to win the doubles and ensure honours were shared in this derby clash.

British Energy ‘B’ 3 v Debenhams ‘C’ 7
One win apiece for the home team trio of Mathew Sproston, Tony Wauchope and Charles Campbell was not enough as Debenhams emerged victorious in this clash. Despite a close five game match with British Energy’s Charles Campbell, Debenhams’ Barrie Pope persevered to win all three of his matches and this combined with team-mate Chris White’s three wins, was enough to ensure victory on the night.

Civil Service ‘B’ 6 v Highnam ‘A’ 4
Leading performer for Civil Service was Peter Boruc who came through two five game matches to register three victories on the night. He was ably supported by Ahmed Bham who won a further two matches and Suleman Salehbnai who won another, to ensure victory. Busiest player of the evening was Highnam’s Richard Maddrell who took all of his matches the full distance but with limited success as he only came away with one win. Further points were gleaned for Highnam with a win each for James Dance and Dave Gough, as well as success in the doubles.

Division 3

British Energy ‘C’ 8 v Wotton ‘A’ 2
British Energy ‘C’ turned on the power as they ran out comfortable winners against opponents Wotton. Allan Lardiner and Mariusz Plaskowicki both won three games each and then proceeded to pair up and take the doubles in four games. A further home win for Trevor Cox and a win apiece for Wotton’s Chris East and Len Horwood left the result, decidedly in British Energy’s favour on the night.

Grange Baptist 7 v Redcliffe College 3
Alistair Wood was the dominant force for the home team winning all three of his matches and then pairing up with Errol Johnson, who also won two matches himself, to triumph in the doubles. This meant that combined with a further win from Nigel Emberson, victory was never in question for the home team despite two wins from opponent Vidas Rimkus and one from Andy Taylor.

Rudford ‘F’ 1 v Rudford ‘E’ 9
A one sided affair resulted in this derby match where Trevor Seymour and Gordon Wallace both attained three wins apiece and team-mate Rich Spry provided a further two, to ensure a comfortable victory for Rudford ‘E’. On the night Dave Vye claimed the only point for Rudford ‘F’ though teammate Sten Salisbury did take two of his matches the full distance but ultimately with no reward.

Division 4

Crypt ‘A’ 1 v Optimists ‘C’ 9
Optimists ‘C’ continued their push at the top of division five with a comfortable away victory in this fixture against Crypt ‘A’. Matt Inman and Nick Walker both came through five game matches against Eddie and Luke McFarland respectively, to win three matches each and then paired up to also win the doubles. This combined with two victories from Ben Roberts was enough for Optimists in a fixture where Luke McFarland earned the home teams only point of the evening.

Sir Thomas Rich’s ‘A’ 7 v Highnam ‘B’ 3
Ian Kellie won three matches for the home team, as did Tony Sexton who came through two five game matches. Both then paired up to win the doubles, ensuring their challenge at the top of division five kept its momentum moving forward. Highnam’s Derek Pigott, Huw Darch and Clare Bell all came away with a victory each to earn some valuable points.

St James Church 3 v Civil Service ‘D’ 7
Another three wins registered for St James’ Alan Page but against an in form Civil Service team this was never going to be enough. Two wins each for Hamza Bham, Phil Lewis and Kevin Burden, combined with a five game doubles win, ensured the away team a comfortable night.

Division 5

Crypt ‘C’ 3 v Crypt ‘B’ 7
Crypt ‘B’ continued their challenge at the top of division 5 with three wins coming from in form Ben Tegg and a further two from Josh Roberts. Ian Ewart, who was unfortunate to lose two close five game matches, both by two points, also added another victory. A five game victory in the doubles for Crypt ‘B’ emphasised their dominance on the night, despite the ‘home’ team registering two wins for Matt Skelding and one for Harry Mayo in this derby match.

...in form Ben Tegg...

Sir Thomas Rich’s ‘C’ 9 v St Peters 1
Second win of the season for the home team for whom Chris Green has been in fine form, once again winning all three of his matches without the loss of a single game. Three more wins came from Sammy Hau and a further two wins were provided by Liam Foylan. Jake Haywood ground out a five game victory to claim St Peter’s solitary point on the night.

Rudford ‘G’ 9 v Sir Thomas Rich’s ‘D’ 1
League positions indicated this could be a one sided affair and unfortunately for Sir Thomas Rich’s this was the case. Three wins apiece for Luke Woodcliffe and Will English, with a further two from Paul Russom, ensured a comfortable victory for the home team. Sir Thomas Rich’s only consolation came when Bohan Du triumphed in a hard fought five game match with Paul Russom.
